Visual Correction
In NATIONAL NEGROGRAPHIC, artist Fa'al Ali presents a striking visual intervention into the history of documentary photography, environmental representation, and the colonial gaze. By mimicking the historic aesthetic of travel and nature periodicals, Ali repositions Black subjects and narratives as native, central explorers of the natural world, rather than objects of curiosity.
Spanning 15 individual works of art, the exhibition charts diverse themes of identity, belonging, memory, and presence in public spaces. Each work is bounded by the signature yellow border frame—a symbol of institutional validation transformed here into a tool of personal agency, self-discovery, and community celebration.
